Preparing your Dog for Boarding

To prepare your family pet for your trip away, we have a few suggestions to make their experience the best it can be! We understand being away from home can be a whole new experience for a pet so we want to help you prepare your pup for their stay!

Previsit:

We encourage a pre-visit to the kennel before their stay just to get them used to the new environment. For a more anxious dog, we suggest coming a few times before their stay to really help create a positive association with the kennel. This can be done by just stopping in and walking around for a few minutes or dropping them off for the day for our available daycare option. This way, your dog can get the experience of the kennel but not have to stay too long away. It will help them see that they don’t always just get dropped off for a longer period of time and won’t always associate it that way.

Packing for the Stay:

We highly recommend bringing items from home to help make their stay more comfortable. Bringing their blankets, toys, or something that smells like home will help relieve some of the stress of being in a new environment. As long as it is a reasonable size, the dog will be able to keep it with them the entire stay. For more anxious pets, using calming chews or taking a visit to the vet for calming medications could be a beneficial preparation for the stay!

During the Stay:

We have a lot of options to help create a positive experience for your dog when boarding. Exercise has been shown to be a great way to relieve stress and signs of anxiety in dogs. We recommend adding playtimes to your dog’s stay to help get them outside and running around with our staff. We also offer enrichment toys like busy bones (a kong filled with peanut butter) that are a great treat for your dog and a way for them to use their minds to get the yummy treat!
