We thought we’d celebrate by sharing the story of how Golrusk began back in 1975 and by thanking the family, friends, staff and clients that have allowed us to serve our community for 45 years and counting!

How it all began…

One night in 1975, my dad, Ken Grosskopf, was driving home from a job site and by chance, drove past a home for sale in De Pere. The home also happened to include a kennel business (my dad had always wanted to own a business…). That night, he and my mom, Jan, talked to a realtor. They made an offer on the home and business the very next day.

When Golrusk officially opened for business my dad was still working at another job (which he did for the first five years we were in business!). I (Tera) am the youngest of Ken and Jan’s three daughters. When my sisters were off to school, my mom brought me to Golrusk and would set my car seat on the front desk while she greeted clients. Many of our friends and family pitched in to help in those early years. Mom’s friend, Sue Gevers, was our first groomer in the basement of our home.

In 1980, my parents built the kennel in Bellevue. My siblings and I grew up with our parents at the business, and it shaped who we all are today.

We’re proud to say that Golrusk has grown to employ 50 people. Of the 50, 19 employees have over 5 years of experience and 10 employees have over 10 years of experience. Roberta our general manager has 28 years of experience.

Thank You to Our Village!

It took a village to grow Golrusk. When my parents first started out, grandma and grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends all helped. When we built the location on Allouez Ave. we built all the cages, painted the walls, made the shelves and installed the flooring ourselves.

As a second-generation owner we rely on our “village” too. Golrusk continues to thrive because of our staff. They are the heart of Golrusk and the reason why multi-generations of clients continue to support us. We are blessed to be surrounded by our amazing staff and clients in the heart of this wonderful community.

Thank you for your support the last 45 years. We look forward to serving this community for years to come!
